{ Sunday Stationery Tip #1 } Request photos of ALL your wedding stationery

January 30, 2011

  • I’m really trying to make a point to blog more this year. It’s difficult to find the time while still working on the new site design, but follow along as I attempt to post a wedding stationery tip every Tuesday. I’ll try to keep them short and sweet!

    The first Tuesday Tip is…

Request that detailed decor photos be shot at the wedding and reception.

Lately detailed dress & attire shots are wildly popular. But don’t forget about the other details you selected to enhance the mood of the day for your guests: programs, place card display or seating chart, place settings, centerpieces and specialty linens, guest book table, table numbers, menu cards, shots of the room set up and awaiting guests … and don’t forget about the invitation and save the dates!

Yes, you can keep leftover paper goods and dry or display the flowers, but nothing can bring the whole memory back like an actual photo of items in use at your wedding. Plus, it will give you time to reminisce and enjoy the details you worked so hard to put together – and may not have had a chance to fully take in on your wedding day.

I highly recommend specifically requesting them to be photographed. Not all photographers do it automatically. You’ll also want to make sure to give them a fresh, unsent invitation ahead of time (mail in a protective sleeve if necessary).

At a minimum, enlist the help of a shutterbug friend or family member (who’s not in the bridal party) to get the shots.

Recently a client from a few years back contacted me hoping to get a few extra copies of her paper goods. A flood had ruined the copies she saved. She specifically mentioned being thankful that she had detailed digital photographs of everything … which is one more reason to request those detail shots ladies! : )
