I was especially thrilled to work on Liz’s invitations because she had picked one of my favorite design themes – the abstract, asymetrical circles. Add to that a layer of textured lilac paper, matching ribbon and a seal with guest’s names printed on them, all in the semi-custom PocketFold. Originally the white cards and envelopes were going to be matte linen, but a last-minute change to the metallic really took them over the top. The seating chart and thank you cards complete the set.

While pricing out your options, keep in mind the difference between CUSTOM and CustomIZED products.

The terms are frequently used interchangably, but they are not the same.

CustomIZED invitations are generally picked from a book, website or catalog and they allow you to change font styles and sometimes colors to customize their invitation template. Your invitations are printed and shipped to you for addressing and assembly. If you’ve fallen in love with a customizable invitation that’s just perfect for your wedding, you’re in luck! But if nothing is turning up to be just what you want, take a look at having custom invitations created.

True, fully-CUSTOM invitations, which is what Custom Paper Works specializes in, are designed from the ground up for each and every client. Invitation components, paper, fonts and designs are all hand-selected with one person in mind. You. You’re involved in the design process throughout (as much or as little as you want to be) to be sure that you get exactly what you want. You can decide how much, if any, assembly work you wish to participate in, and any extra services you need such as addressing and custom stamps.

Pricing will vary depending on the type of printing.

Letterpress - Letterpress is the original mechanical printing process founded by Gutenberg in 1440. Words and images on the printing plate are raised, which produces an indentaion on the paper as the plate strikes it. Fewer printers are doing Letterpress these days and it comes at a premium price, though the results are elegant and give a very luxurious feel to any invitation.

Offset Printing/Lithography – Ink is first applied to metal plates and transfered to a rubber cylinder, then onto the paper. The ink sits flush with the paper and has a flat texture. Varnishes can be applied on top of the print to make it appear matte, glossy, or metallic.

Thermography – Commpnly used for wedding invitations, less expensive than engraving – print is slightly raised and glossy. A printed image is dusted with a powder before the ink is dry. Heat is applied which fuses the ink and powder together and creates the raised texture. (Similar to embossing you might do with rubber stamps). Most traditional mass-produced catalog invitations use Thermography.

Digital Printing - The newest printing process, prints directly from a computer file and requires much less set-up time than all other types of printing. High-quality laser, ink-jet and web-based presses can achieve beautiful results that can be fully-controlled by a knowledgeble printer. Digital printing is usuallythe most cost-effective printing process for smaller quantities (under several hundred of each design).
